The Baseball Buffet for 8/6/2026

NYM 6, CLE 5 (10) - CLE SP Tanner Bibee had an impressive 10 K over 5.2 innings (4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB), but also gave up solo HRs to Brett Baty, Jorge Polanco, and Carson Benge. NYM SP Christian Scott had 7 K over 5 innings (6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB) but left after five innings with the score tied 3-3. Later down 4-3, the Guardians scored two in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead. They turned to their usually reliable closer Cade Smith in the ninth, but he walked Jared Young to lead off the inning. After a pop out and strikeout, Polanco hit a double, and Marcus Semien drew a walk to load the bases. Rookie A.J. Ewing then reached on an error by SS Brayan Rocchio, with Young scoring on the play to tie the game 5-5. Mets reliever Chayce McDermott tossed a second scoreless inning in the bottom of the ninth and the game went into extras.

Matt Festa came in for the Guardians and immediately allowed a single to Bo Bichette which drove in the automatic runner. Bichette was out trying to stretch it into a double, and then Festa struck out Benge and Young to end the inning. Daniel Duarte entered for the Mets and closed it out to earn his first save of the year. Of note, 22-year-old Guardians rookie 3B Angel Genao went 4-5 in his major league debut.

LAD 6, CHC 7 - Shohei Ohtani led off the game with a HR, but then Pete Crow-Armstrong did the same in the bottom of the first. CHC SP Shota Imanaga settled in after the first, giving up 8 hits over 5 innings, but no further scoring (5 IP, 8 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K). On the other hand LAD SP Eric Lauer really struggled (4 IP, 11 H, 6 ER, 0 BB, 1 K), with Crow-Armstrong connecting for a 2-run HR in the fourth. He was 3-5 with a double in addition to the two HRs; Carson Kelly and Nico Hoerner had 3 hits each, and Michael Busch was 2-5 with a double. The Dodgers mounted a rally in the eighth inning, scoring five runs with Ohtani hitting another HR, and Max Muncy hit a 3-run HR. Mookie Betts went 4-5 and Miguel Rojas went 2-4 in the Dodgers loss.

PIT 2, MIL 4 - PIT SP Paul Skenes was effective early, but then started going longer into counts and walked 4 batters with 3 runs scoring over 5 innings (2 H, 6 K). Meanwhile the big story was MIL SP Kyle Harrison who was outstanding in making his first start in nearly a month after coming back from the IL. He had 10 K over 5 innings (1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB), at one point striking out eight Pirates in a row. He came out after developing some cramps, and William Contreras hit a solo HR off recent Pirates acquisition Lake Bachar to put the Brewers up 4-0. Endy Rodríguez then cut that deficit in half with a 2-run HR in the seventh off DL Hall. But then Abner Uribe pitched a scoreless eighth and Trevor Megill did the same in the ninth to record his 20th save of the year.

WSH 10, PHI 4 (11) - Not the typical score you see for an 11-inning game. PHI SP Andrew Painter was effective in a short start (4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K), and WSH SP Jake Irvin pitched well into the sixth inning (5.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K), giving up two runs including a solo HR in the second to the Phillies apparent new cleanup hitter, Luis Arraez. The Nationals briefly took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh when Brady House hit a solo HR, and then Jacob Young doubled and CJ Abrams singled drove him in with a single. The Phillies came right back with a walk, a single, and then a single by Bryson Stott to tie the game. Both bullpens held the line and the game went into extras.

Both teams scored a run in the tenth, and the Phillies turned to their eighth pitcher of the game, newly acquired reliever Caleb Killian. He walked Jacob Young and then gave up a triple to CJ Abrams, which drove in two. With the speedy Abrams on third, the Nats brought pitcher Miles Mikolas in to bunt and it worked: he laid down a nice bunt to the first base side, Alec Bohm made a good play, but Abrams beat the toss home. Two more walks loaded the bases and Andrés Chaparro doubled to drive in two more. A ground out drove in the sixth run of the inning, leading to the 10-4 score.

NYM Nolan McLean vs. CLE Foster Griffin - This is a matchup of two pitchers having good seasons, but it is also Griffin's debut since being traded from the Nationals to the Guardians

CWS Luis Castillo vs. BOS Ranger Suarez - Suarez has done fairly well this year with a 3.15 ERA over 19 starts, while Castillo has been less consistent--but might get a fresh start now that he has been traded from the Mariners to the White Sox
