The Baseball Buffet for 8/3/2026

TEX 3, HOU 7 - TEX SP Kumar Rocker gave up a lot of baserunners (5.1 IP, 10 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K), and the Astros built an early 3-0 lead after Jeremy Peña hit a 2-run HR in the fourth. The Rangers came right back with two runs in the fifth off HOU SP Peter Lambert (5.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 K), and then tied the game in the top of the seventh with a solo HR by Brandon Nimmo. Rangers manager Skip Schumaker and hitting coach Justin Viele were both ejected by home plate umpire Todd Tichenor for arguing over the strikeout of Nicky Lopez that ended the top of the inning. After the stretch the Astros broke the tie and built up a lead by scoring two runs off of both Tyler Alexander and Cole Winn. AJ Blubaugh pitched a scoreless ninth for Houston to earn his first save of the year. Yordan Alvarez continued his strong season by going 4-5 with 3 doubles and 2 RBI. Cam Smith went 3-5 with a double and 2 runs; and Jose Altuve was 2-5 as the Astros completed the sweep of their state and division rival Rangers.

KCR 1, COL 8 - KCR SP Seth Lugo (5 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 5 BB, 3 K) allowed two runs over five innings, but then ran into trouble in the sixth as he gave up two singles and a walk to load the bases before Aaron Bummer relieved him. Brett Sullivan drove in two with a double, and then Jake McCarthy hit a 3-run HR. Cole Carrigg hit a two-out single, then stole both second and third and was driven home by a double from TJ Rumfield. Meanwhile, veteran COL SP Kyle Freeland showed signs of his former self by throwing a solid complete game (9 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K) for the win, albeit improving his record to only 3-10 on the season.

MIN 6, SEA 7 - The Mariners scored two in the bottom of the first off MIN SP Taj Bradley (6 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 2 K). SEA SP George Kirby was effective (7 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) and Cal Raleigh gave them a 6-0 lead with a 3-run HR in the seventh. The Mariners bullpen then gave up five runs in the eighth and another run in the ninth, as Trevor Larnach, Royce Lewis, and Luke Keaschall all connected for home runs. The game was tied 6-6 and the Twins brought in Yoendrys Gómez for the bottom of the ninth, but he quickly allowed a leadoff single to Josh Naylor. He struck out Raleigh, but then Victor Robles singled but Naylor advanced to third and Robles advanced to second. Colt Emerson then hit a one-out, walk-off single for the win. Cole Young went 4-5, and Naylor, Emerson, and Julio Rodríguez had two hits apiece for Seattle. Larnach, Lewis, Keaschall, and Josh Bell had two hits each in the Twins' loss.

BOS 8, LAD 4 - LAD SP Emmet Sheehan struggled (2.2 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 4 K), giving up 2 runs in the first inning, and then back-to-back-to-back HRs by Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, and Masataka Yoshida in the third. Rookie BOS SP Jake Bennett gave up three runs in the second inning but then settled in after that (5.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K). The Red Sox built up a four-run lead, and finally Garrett Whitlock pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to close it out. Jarren Duran had his 14th HR of the year, and Rafaela, Abreu, and Yoshida each had two hits as the Red Sox swept the Dodgers for the first time since 2010. Andy Pages went 2-5 with a double and 3 RBI, and Max Muncy was 2-4 with 2 runs in the loss for the Dodgers.
