The Baseball Buffet for 8/13/2026

TBR 8, ATH 4 - The Rays roughed up ATH SP Jack Perkins to the tune of 12 hits over 5 innings (7 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 2 K), including Liam Hicks hitting a 3-run HR in the fourth. Hicks was 3-5 with a double also; Jonny DeLuca went 3-5 with 2 doubles; and Yandy Díaz, Junior Caminero, and Cedric Mullins had two hits apiece. Meanwhile, TBR SP Drew Rasmussen pitched five solid innings (5 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K), and although Rays reliever Michael Grove allowed solo HRs to Zack Gelof and Lawrence Butler in the eighth, he was able to pitch a 1-2-3 ninth to close out the game. For the Rays it was their ninth win in a row—all on the road—and they currently have the best record in baseball.

MIL 3, SDP 4 (11) - MIL SP Dustin May was effective over seven innings of work (7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K), only giving up solo HR to Xander Bogaerts in the third. The Brewers meanwhile scored two runs early off SDP SP Robbie Ray (4 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K), with one coming from a solo HR by Gary Sánchez in the second. Chad Patrick came in for May in the eighth, and after getting two outs, issued two walks and then allowed a single to Jake Cronenworth which tied the game. Neither team scored in the ninth, so it went into extras.

Neither team scored in the 10th, and Padres reliever Adrian Morejon came back out for the 11th and immediately allowed a double to Sánchez which drove in the automatic runner. He was able to limit the damage to just the one run, and the Brewers turned to Antonio Senzatela for the bottom of the 11th. Manny Machado grounded out, but the automatic runner advanced to third. Senzatela then hit Ty France with a pitch, Sung-Mun Song pinch-ran for France, and Jackson Merrill hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Song then stole second, and Luis Campusano hit a walk-off single to drive him in.

CHC 12, WSH 6 - Rookie WSH SP Jackson Kent (4 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 6 K) made his MLB debut and was a bit wild but pitched four scoreless innings before running into more trouble in the fifth. The Cubs scored four runs that inning, and then added five more in the sixth, and three more in the eighth. The big hitter for Chicago was Alex Bregman who went 3-3 with 3 HR, 2 walks, 3 runs, and 7 RBI. Dansby Swanson was 2-4 with a HR, a double, a walk, 3 runs, and 2 RBI, and Seiya Suzuki and Pedro Ramírez each had two hits. Meanwhile, CHC SP David Peterson allowed a lot of baserunners and four runs (three earned) over his five innings of work (9 H, 3 BB, 6 K). Javier Assad allowed solo HRs to Abimelic Ortiz in the sixth, and José Tena in the ninth, but was able to close it out for his second save of the year.

BOS Payton Tolle vs. TOR Max Scherzer - This is an interesting matchup that has a "passing of the torch" feel to it, with the 42-year-old Scherzer having just moved into 10th on the all-time strikeouts leaderboard, and the 23-year-old Payton Tolle having just struck out 14 over 6 innings in his last start.

MIL Shane Drohan vs. LAD Roki Sasaki - We still have plenty of games left in the regular season, but obviously this four-game series could be a preview of the NLCS this fall.
