The Baseball Buffet for 7/11/2026

ATH 1, CWS 14 - CWS SP Sean Burke had a strong 11-K outing on the Fourth of July, and in some ways he did even better yesterday with 9 K over 7 innings (4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB), only allowing a solo HR to Tyler Soderstrom in the seventh. Meanwhile, Jacob Lopez retired five batters as the Athletics opener, and then Aaron Civale entered as the long man. He did well until the fifth inning when he gave up four runs. The bullpen later fell apart giving up eight runs in the seventh, and finally position-player Carlos Cortes did mop-up duty giving up two runs (one earned) in the eighth. White Sox rookie Tristan Peters hit for the cycle, including a 2-run HR and a triple in the seventh inning (for more on this rare feat, see the article by Scott Merkin at MLB). Miguel Vargas went 3-4 with a HR, 2 doubles, and 3 RBI; Andrew Benintendi was 2-5 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI; and Chase Meidroth went 2-4 with a walk, a double, and 2 runs. Of note, Munetaka Murakami came off the IL and played in his first game since May 29th, going 1-5 with a double, but with four strikeouts.

CHC 0, CIN 4 - Back on the Fourth of July, Hunter Greene had a rough 2026 debut against Baltimore. He looked very different yesterday, posting 12 strikeouts over 7 innings (3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB). Two Reds relievers combined with him for a four-hit shutout. Meanwhile, CHC SP Shota Imanaga (5 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) limited the Reds to just one run from a solo HR by Elly De La Cruz in the fifth. As it turned out that would have been enough, but Cincinnati added insurance in the form of three more runs in the seventh, including a 2-run HR by JJ Bleday off Cubs reliever Jake Woodford. De La Cruz, Sal Stewart, Tyler Stephenson, and Edwin Arroyo had two hits apiece in the Reds' win.

ARI 9, LAD 3 - The Diamondbacks scored two in the top of the first against Dodgers opener Kyle Hurt. Los Angeles came right back, however, with leadoff back-to-back HRs from Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages in the bottom of the first. ARI SP Eduardo Rodriguez settled in after that (6 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K), and the Dodgers only managed to score one more run in the ninth inning. Meanwhile, they used seven pitchers as part of their bullpen day, but the D-backs piled up runs in four more innings. Tim Tawa went 3-4 with a HR and 4 RBI, and Gabriel Moreno was 2-5 with a double and 2 RBI.
