⚾ Welcome! ⚾
Yesterday we had a nearly full slate of Wednesday games (14), plus the continuation of a suspended game from Tuesday. Here are the results (link to all game box scores):
NYM 9, CIN 1 - NYM SP Nolan McLean had his best start of the year (7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 K), and two Mets relievers closed out the game with scoreless frames. Meanwhile, New York roughed up CIN SP Nick Lodolo with 11 hits in less than five innings (4.2 IP, 11 H, 7 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) and collected 15 hits overall. Juan Soto went 3-5 with a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBI; Bo Bichette was 3-4 with a walk and 3 runs; and Francisco Alvarez had three hits also.
MIA 12, PHI 4 - MIA SP Sandy Alcantara gave up two runs in the first and two runs in the second (unearned due to errors by Otto Lopez and Kyle Stowers). He gave up 8 hits over 6 innings, but overall he did well enough (6 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K) given that his teammates' bats showed up ready to go. The Marlins jumped on rookie PHI SP Andrew Painter (2 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) who continued to struggle this year, giving up six runs, including early HRs by Stowers and Owen Cassie. Stowers' error notwithstanding, he had a big day at the plate going 4-5 with 2 HR, a double, and 5 RBI. Joe Mack went 2-3 with a walk, a HR, and 3 runs; Esteury Ruiz was 3-5 with 2 doubles and 2 runs; and Jakob Marsee piled on with a solo HR in the ninth. In the loss for the Phillies Trea Turner went 3-5 with a double, and Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott had two hits apiece.
CLE 4, MIL 9 - CLE SP Gavin Williams struggled yesterday (5 IP, 7 H, 7 ER, 2 BB, 4 K), giving up a leadoff HR to Christian Yelich, and then a 2-run HR to Jackson Chourio in the fourth. MIL SP Brandon Sproat had 6 K over 3.2 IP, but ran into trouble in the fourth and gave up a grand slam to Daniel Schneemann. But then three Brewers relievers didn't allow any further damage, including Grant Anderson closing out the game in the ninth. Of note, Milwaukee's 21-year-old SS prospect Cooper Pratt played in his second major league game and collected his first two hits.

Today’s Trivia Question
One of today's Birthday Boys (see below) is Hall of Famer Lou Brock. He played in the majors from 1961-1979. Today's question will be a two-parter:
In the decade of the 1960s, Brock had the second most stolen bases with 387—who had the most?
In the decade of the 1970s, Brock had the most stolen bases with 551—who had the second most?
(Trivia answers are provided for paid All-Star subscribers of the Baseball Buffet.)
🎂 Today’s Birthday Boys 🎉

Lou Brock, Andrés Galarraga, Sandy Alomar Jr., Steve Cishek
Currently active players who were born on June 18 include HOU Jake Meyers, TEX Robby Ahlstrom, MIA William Kempner, LAA Bryce Teodosio, and LAA Tayler Saucedo.
Today’s Matchups
We have a partial slate of games today (9), as many teams are either traveling or otherwise have the day off. These two are looking like interesting matchups (and here is a link to the full schedule):
TOR Trey Yesavage vs. BOS Sonny Gray - two pitchers capable of having strong outings
BAL Shane Baz vs. SEA Bryan Woo - similarly, two pitchers capable of having strong performances
Some other starters on the hill today include CLE Parker Messick, MIN Joe Ryan, and KCR Noah Cameron.

Baseball Quote of the Day
One of today's Birthday Boys (see above) is Hall of Famer Lou Brock, so here are some good quotes from him:
"Show me a guy who's afraid to look bad, and I'll show you a guy you can beat every time."
"I don't think about goals and records. Competition is what keeps me playing."
"If you're successful in what you do over a period of time, you'll start approaching records, but that's not what you're playing for. You're playing to challenge and be challenged."
"They will look at my career as the guy who gave it all but at the same time did it with integrity. That's what we all aim for - the respect of the game as well as the honesty that's played a part of that game."
"Stealing bases was put to me almost as a prerequisite for staying in the game. They didn't give me a handbook on how to do it; they said do it. Under those conditions you go out and develop your own handbook."
"Your bat is your life. It's your weapon. You don't want to go into battle with anything that feels less than perfect."
"You can't be afraid to make errors! You can't be afraid to be naked before the crowd, because no one can ever master the game of baseball, or conquer it. You can only challenge it."
"One of the trademarks of a champion is that he can outlast you."
⚾ Enjoy the games today!⚾
