⚾ Welcome! ⚾
Yesterday we had a full slate of Saturday games (15). Here are the results (link to all game box scores):
KCR 6, TEX 7 - KCR SP Seth Lugo pitched fairly well (6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K), giving up a HR to Josh Jung in the first inning, and then two unearned runs in the fourth after a throwing error by 3B Maikel Garcia. Meanwhile, TEX SP Kumar Rocker threw six scoreless innings (6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 2 K). After he departed, the Royals offense came alive scoring four runs in the seventh, and then Carter Jensen hit a 2-run HR in the eighth. The Rangers cut the Royals by scoring one in the bottom of the eighth, making the score 6-4 with one chance left. Kansas City brought in Lucas Erceg but he immediately allowed a HR by Joc Pederson. The Rangers hit three singles in a row, with Jake Burger driving in Josh Jung to tie the game. Then with still no outs, Ezequiel Duran hit a walk-off single that drove in Brandon Nimmo for the comeback win.
TOR 5, BAL 6 - TOR SP Trey Yesavage didn't have good control, but only allowed two hits and one run (5 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 7 BB, 4 K). BAL SP Brandon Young pitched well (6.2 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K), but the Orioles bullpen allowed a few more runs such that they were down 5-1 going into the bottom of the ninth. Having already used Louis Varland in the eighth, the Jays turned to Jeff Hoffman for the ninth. He struck out Samuel Basallo, but then hit Coby Mayo with a pitch and allowed a triple to Leody Taveras which drove in Mayo. He then gave up a single, a double, and two walks, and the score was 5-4 with the bases loaded when he was relieved by Connor Seabold. Unfortunately, things didn't improve as Adley Rutschman walked to tie the game, and then Pete Alonso hit a walk-off single.
MIN 9, PIT 10 - This game involved 27 combined hits, with the two starting pitchers giving up 22 of them. MIN SP Bailey Ober (4.2 IP, 12 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) allowed a HR to Spencer Horwitz in the first, and then six runs in the second including HRs to Jake Mangum and Oneil Cruz, his 13th of the year. PIT SP Mitch Keller didn't allow any home runs but struggled nonetheless (4 IP, 10 H, 7 ER, 1 BB, 5 K). The game was tied 7-7 after four frames, the Pirates scored three more by the end of the seventh, and then the Twins scored two to come within one in the top of the eighth. But then Bucs reliever Gregory Soto pitched a scoreless ninth for his 7th save of the year. For the Pirates, Mangum and Nick Gonzalez had three hits each, and Horwitz, Bryan Reynolds, and Konnor Griffin had two apiece. For Minnesota, Kody Clemens and Luke Keaschall collected three hits, and Byron Buxton had two.
SDP 4, WSH 9 - WSH SP Foster Griffin gave up three solo HRs over five innings (5 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K). The Padres who hit them were Xander Bogaerts, Manny Machado, and Fernando Tatis Jr. who finally connected for his first HR this season (in now 210 at-bats). SDP SP Michael King was doing quite well through six innings, but then ran into trouble in the seventh and was replaced by Bradgley Rodriguez. The Nationals scored six that inning, and then two more in the eighth to take a commanding lead. Clayton Better pitched a scoreless ninth to close it out and notch his 3rd save.

Baseball Quote of the Day
One of today's Birthday Boys is Kenny Lofton, so here are two quotes from him:
"I may not get a hit, but you’ll see me playing hard. You see my outs, they will be quality outs."
"Most of the teams who traded for me or signed me needed me to fill a hole in the puzzle. I feel good about that. You’ve got to roll with it, live your life day-by-day. Tomorrow’s not promised to anyone."
