⚾ Welcome! ⚾

Yesterday’s schedule included a nearly full slate of games (14), more than usual for a Monday. Here are the results (link to all game box scores):

  • NYM 16, WSH 7 - The Nationals scored three off NYM SP Christian Scott (4 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K) and built an early 3-1 lead, but then the Mets had HRs from Brett Baty and Bo Bichette and went up 5-4 through seven. Washington tied the game in the eighth, and the game went into extras. Neither team scored in the 10th, both scored a run in the 11th, and the game remained knotted at 6-6. Paxton Schultz came in as the Nationals' sixth pitcher in the 12th inning, but he gave up 5 hits and 7 runs (6 earned) while only getting one out. At that point Washington asked infielder Jorbit Vivas to pitch, and he gave up another 4 hits and 3 runs, giving the Mets 10 runs in the 12th. The Mets collected 18 hits overall, with Bichette and Carson Benge having three each, and Baty, Juan Soto, A.J. Ewing, and Tyrone Taylor having two hits apiece.

  • ATL 0, MIA 12 - The Marlins scored six runs off rookie ATL SP J.R. Ritchie (4 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 4 K), and then scored another six runs in the fifth inning off Braves reliever Aaron Bummer. Xavier Edwards went 2-4 with a HR, 2 runs, and 2 RBI; Liam Hicks was 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI; and Javier Santoja hit a grand slam. Meanwhile, MIA SP Max Meyer pitched six scoreless innings (6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K), and three Marlins relievers combined for a shutout.

  • ATH 1, LAA 2 - LAA SP Walbert Ureña pitched well (6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K), but the big story in this one was ATH SP J.T. Ginn who had a no-hitter going through eight innings. He then gave up a lead-off single to Adam Frazier in the bottom of the ninth, and Zach Neto then hit a walk-off, 2-run HR for the Angels’ comeback win. Ginn ended up with 10 K over 8 IP, allowing only those two hits, 2 ER, and 1 BB.

As is typical for a Tuesday, today we have a full slate of games (15). Here are some matchups that are particularly interesting (see full list at MLB):

  • CIN Chase Burns vs. PHI Jesús Luzardo - Burns is off to a great start with a 1.87 ERA over nine starts so far

  • TOR Dylan Cease vs. NYY Will Warren - Cease has done well (2.41 ERA) so far in his first season with the Blue Jays, but is facing a challenge in game one of this series with the Yankees

  • MIL Jacob Misiorowski vs. CHC Ben Brown - game one of an important NL central series, featuring two pitchers doing well so far this year

Other starters taking the mound today include CLE Parker Messick, NYM Nolan McLean, and BOS Ranger Suárez.

Baseball Quote of the Day

One of today's Birthday Boys (see above) is Hall of Famer Ed Walsh, so here are two quotes from him:

"I threw my best to every hitter I faced, and I found I had the strength to go all the way."

"I could feel the muscles grind and wrench during the game, and it seemed to me my arm would leap out of my socket when I shot the ball across the plate. My arm would keep me awake till morning with a pain I had never known before."

Enjoy the games today!
